As part of the Global Dystopia symposium, Desirée de Ridder presents the construction process of the “Pampas del Zonda” research station in the Andes Mountains. This visual record documents an architecture of resistance: the creation of a shelter born from the dialogue between bioconstruction and applied science. Facing a dystopian future, the project proposes “Regeneration Strategies” that integrate ancestral knowledge and biological design, transforming the arid landscape into a living ecosystem. Through this photographic PDF, the symbiosis between the territory and the structure is revealed, where the earth becomes a refuge for biodiversity and critical thought.
Desirée de Ridder is an artist, ecologist, and Professor of Painting at the National University of the Arts (UNA). Trained in London and Paris, she uses sculptural ceramics as a tool for defending animal life and reflecting on humanity’s impact on nature. In 2016, she received the Third Prize at the National Ceramics Salon. She currently coordinates the activities of the multidisciplinary group Las mujeres del desierto, integrating her background in painting with the alchemy of clay and glazes.
