This symposium explores the scientific collaborations and transdisciplinary exchanges that inform the artistic projects presented in this year’s Biennale. As research-based artistic practice has increasingly embraced long-term collaborations across disciplines, artists and scientists are developing new methodologies, shared forms of inquiry, and alternative modes of knowledge production.
Bringing together artists, researchers, and scientific collaborators, the symposium offers a platform to present ongoing research and discuss the productive intersections between art and science. Through a series of conversations and presentations, participants will reflect on collaborative practices that challenge disciplinary boundaries and open new perspectives on contemporary ecological, technological, and social questions.
With contributions by: Carlos Borghi and Desiree Derider (Mujeres del Desierto), who will expose their research and collaboration with Charly Nijensohn; Artist-in-Residence Txulunh Gakran, a young Indigenous activist from the Laklanõ Xokleng people and leader of the Xokleng Youth Organization, together with João Voia explores acoustic moments that tell the story of the relationship between territory, culture, and ecological destruction; Sergei Lebedev and David Stalling, who have collaborated for many years in the field of seismology and will present their latest project; and Ben Nurgenc, whose artistic research connects field biology and contemporary art. Together with his guests Daniel Kozák and Rhiannon Gloor (Czech University of Life Sciences Prague), he will offer insights into current research on primary forests.
