Performance – lecture
Part performance, part lecture, this presentation explores the meaning of community, collaboration, and club culture through the lens of QTBIPOC (Queer, Trans, Black, Indigenous and People of Colour) in London, UK. The lecture will reflect on how soundsystems, Carnival, and club spaces become sites of resistance, care, sexuality, visibility and survival. It considers how queer collectives are sustained through ecosystems built and navigated by marginalised communities, centering the work of Faggamuffin Bloc Party and Sistermatic Sound System, and referencing collectives such as Black Obsidian Sound System. Audiences are invited into an immersive and embodied experience through archival imagery, sound, storytelling and live reflection.
GIN is a seasoned event producer and community organiser with over a decade of experience shaping inclusive, transformative nightlife spaces. A driving force in embedding safer space policies across the UK club scene, GIN has worked alongside pioneering collectives like BBZ, Pxssy Palace, and Resis’dance to reimagine what nightlife can be for QTBIPOC communities. They are the co-founder of multiple groundbreaking projects, including Black Obsidian Sound System, Sex and Rage, and Faggamuffin Bloc Party which is one of the UK’s first openly queer sound systems at Carnival. Across all of these platforms, GIN’s mission remains clear: to create spaces and collectives rooted in QTBIPOC liberation and cultural innovation.
