Homeostasis – A Journey North
Homeostasis – A Journey North is a documentary about the interdisciplinary project “Frontiers of Solitude”. This international event conducted during the years 2015-16 was an inquiry of the ongoing transformations of landscape and the interconnections between post-industrial civilization and nature. These topics were elaborated in the framework of cultural geography and morphology of three selected areas In Czech Republic, Island and Norway. The project included expeditions, residencies, workshops and exhibitions in the above mentioned countries. “Homeostasis” was composed from various video and audio materials captured during the expedition Into the Abyss of Lignite Clouds in North Bohemia between 2015.

The Frontiers of Solitude website was created in 2015 as part of the international year-long project Na pomezí samoty, which included participants from the Czech Republic, Iceland and Norway.
This project focused on current transformations of the landscape and the close connections between our post-industrial civilization and nature. These themes were elaborated in terms of the cultural geography and morphology of three specific areas of central and northern Europe.
The project included residencies and workshops in selected areas of the Czech Republic, Iceland and Norway, as well as an exhibition and symposium in Prague in 2016.

An exhibition catalogue includes documentary videos and sound recordings, texts on contemporary art, ecology and the environmental sciences. The project was a joint initiative of the Školská 28 Gallery (Deai/setkání), the Atelier Nord, and the Skaftfell Center for Visual Art, and was supported by grant from Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway through the EEA Grants.
