Multimedia intervention
The title encapsulates the ambivalence of the work. The English word “tyre” is phonetically akin to “tired”, pointing to the weariness of an era. The work does not express individual exhaustion, but rather a collective, ecological burnout. The tyre — once a symbol of mobility, progress, and the unstoppable forward motion — has reached the end of its journey. It has worn itself out on the promises of a growth-oriented society that knows no brakes. Now, alone on the River Spree, it floats surrounded by fog it created itself, emitting the sizzling and crackling sounds of burning. While present on the river, it is radio-controlled by the artist.
Georg Werner studied Applied Cultural Studies at Universität Hildesheim (Diplom), Experimental Media Design at UdK Berlin and Sound Art in a master class with Ulrich Eller at HBK Braunschweig. He often works incollaboration with international artists and collectives in the field between art & technology. He is eager to learn and shares the knowledge he gathered along the way in workshops, lectures and seminars. His artistic approach is humble and multi layered – influenced by objects and situations, that he modifies, to be inviting to exploration and relation. Meanwhile they may raise the sensitivity of the viewers perception.
