Multimedia installation
Imagine Human! is a multimedia installation combining sounds from the human body with photographs taken after World War II by an aid worker. The work connects sound, memory, and physical presence through an interactive object that allows visitors to activate and influence the audio environment. Photographs and texts are presented in wall-mounted boxes, creating a fragmented narrative space.
Lisa W Carlson (b. 1949) is a visual artist based in Härnösand, focusing on voice, sound, performance, and printing techniques. Her work explores human relationships with the outside world, investigating how memories manifest in layers of materiality. Recurring themes include different forms of storytelling, deeply connected to voice and sound, without words. She delves into what lies beyond language, to tell about the physical and existential state of man in a way that is intimate and transformative. She studied at Konstfack in Stockholm (1969-73) and has exhibited at Sundsvalls Museum, Bildmuseet, Västerbottens Museum, and Fylkingen in Stockholm. Since 2019, she has collaborated with artist Kirstin Burckhardt, producing the book Brutal with Love (2023, Vexer förlag, Berlin). Their work has been shown internationally, including Errant Sound 2023 and in Berlin at Deep See (OH-PE-RAA!, 2025). Carlson is part of the artist group NORRA ORIENTEN and collaborates with sound artist Jim Hoult.
