Marcela Lucatelli NECROMANCY

Performance

Danish Music Award-winning vocal trio Necromancy brings together a radical meeting between composers and musicians Lars Bech Pilgaard, Utku Tavil, and Marcela Lucatelli. Using drums, guitar, effects, and extreme vocals, they create a tunnel between Western and Afro-Brazilian perspectives on death, taking listeners on a groovy rollercoaster of noise, gothic and horror. The music draws on Afro-Brazilian spiritual traditions, with each movement honouring a different orixá through their distinct sonic worlds. Lucatelli’s powerful vocal range moves from hoarse spells and invented incantations to ecstatic outbursts, woven into immersive soundscapes. Polyrhythmic santeria singing meets noise rock and free jazz, with a subtle hooligan attitude.

Marcela Lucatelli is an award-winning Brazilian-born, Denmark-based composer, vocalist and interdisciplinary artist. Internationally acclaimed for her radical vocal practice and politically charged performances, she works at the intersection of contemporary music, performance art, and experimental sound. Her work has been performed by leading ensembles and soloists across Europe and the Americas, and in 2023 she received the Danish Music Award for Vocal Jazz Release of the Year for her album Necromancy, presented this year at DYSTOPIA.
