Paralogues Hylecide: Deforestation Tales in the Anthropocene

Lecture Performance

Hylecide: Deforestation Tales in the Anthropocene is a sound lecture performance by Paralogues. The term Hylecide was coined by Paralogues to highlight the problems of deforestation over the centuries. Hylecide is a combination of the Ancient Greek words ὕλη (hylē, forest, matter) and Latin –cide (caedere, to kill): The destruction of ancient forests, the deliberate erasure of both ecological and spiritual histories, and the silencing of ecosystems that have sustained the Earth for millennia. Starting from the Gilgamesh epic, the sound lecture performance tells stories from different epochs and cultures using field recordings as well as abstract composition.
