Tintin Patrone MUSIKONG BUMBONG expanded

Sound performance, 9 – 19 bamboo intruments and performers, since 2024

The project Musikong Bumbong, initiated in Manila, engages with the living tradition of a Philippine marching band rooted in the revolutionary period, whose distinctive sound is based on handcrafted bamboo instruments. Anastacio Rodriguez, a fifth-generation musician, builds and performs these instruments, ensuring the continuity of this musical heritage. At its core, the project focuses on organizing artistic processes that carry tradition forward through contemporary practices. Within the context of the Biennale, particular attention is given to children as the next generation of the band: they are taught to play the instruments by the daughter of the instrument maker while also developing their own graphic notations. From their perspective as young practitioners situated in
the Global South, they contribute multiple layers of knowledge, experience, and imagination. In this way, the project unfolds as a practice of transmission, artistic agency, and collective future-making.

Tintin Patrone is a German-Filipino sound and performance artist based in Hamburg. Her work explores the relationships between music, sound, visuality, and experimental gesture, with a focus on how collective practices shape social relations and negotiate identity. She is particularly interested in the human conditions of technology and works with robots, artificial intelligence, and non-human performers to question notions of subjectivity, embodiment, and presence. Her projects combine artistic research, collaborative production, and performative situations that remain accessible, humorous, and physically grounded. Patrone studied at HFBK Hamburg and has been working internationally across performance, installation, and long-term re-search-based formats. As a musician she has performed at festivals like Skaņu Mežs (LV), Intonal (SE), Meakusma (BE), Unsafe&Sound (AT), Lacking Sound Fest (TW) and Les Digitales (CH).
